Interior work across the Buriganga in Keraniganj

Keraniganj lies on the southern bank of the Buriganga, directly opposite Old Dhaka, and is linked to the city by bridges over the river. Once largely rural, much of it is now a mix of new residential buildings, workshops, markets and remaining open land.

Projects here range from families finishing a newly built house to garment traders fitting out showrooms and offices. Because Keraniganj is right next to Dhaka, our team crosses the river for site visits without a long journey, and supervision works just as it does in the city.

Houses and new flats in Keraniganj

Much of the housing is independent family houses of two to four storeys, often on land a family has held for years, with apartment buildings rising in the areas closest to the bridges. Owners commonly put up the structure first and finish the interior one floor at a time.

What owners typically want:

  • A full interior package for a newly built floor: false ceiling, wardrobes, kitchen and bathrooms
  • Drawing and dining rooms large enough for big family gatherings
  • Raised thresholds and steps that keep water out of ground-floor rooms
  • A prayer room or quiet corner set aside within the layout
  • Balconies and rooftop spaces finished for use in the cooler months

Garment showrooms, workshops and local shops

Keraniganj is widely known as a centre of the garment trade for Bangladesh's domestic market, with clusters of small clothing manufacturers and wholesale showrooms near the riverbank. These businesses need showrooms that display stock clearly to wholesale buyers, a small office for orders and accounts, and storage for bulk fabric.

Beyond garments, pharmacies, clinics, schools, restaurants and retail shops serve a growing population along the main roads. For garment showrooms in particular, we usually plan:

  • Wall-mounted display systems and hanging rails that show a full range at a glance
  • Large sample or cutting tables with storage underneath
  • A glass-partitioned office for order-taking and accounts
  • Bright, even lighting that shows true fabric colours

Building for low ground, damp and fabric dust

Parts of Keraniganj are low-lying, and some areas see waterlogging in a heavy monsoon or when the river runs high. Humidity is high for much of the year, and in workshop areas fabric lint and road dust settle on every surface. We recommend:

  • Ground-floor furniture on legs or plinths rather than sitting directly on the floor
  • Full-body porcelain or ceramic tiles downstairs instead of wooden or laminate flooring
  • PVC or aluminium-framed lower kitchen cabinets in homes prone to water entry
  • A waterproof coating on wall bases before any panelling goes up
  • Closed, glass-fronted display cabinets in garment showrooms to keep lint off stock
  • Termite treatment for all timber, since termites thrive in damp, low-lying ground

Working with Interior Villa from Keraniganj

From our base in Mohammadpur, Keraniganj is a short trip across the river, so a designer can come out for measurements and a discussion at a time that suits you. We check floor levels, damp and signs of past water entry, and discuss how each room will be used.

The layout and photorealistic 3D design are sent over WhatsApp, and we can go through them on a video call or at our office. Once you approve the design and choose materials, you get an itemized quotation. Materials reach the site in planned batches, and a project manager supervises the work regularly and shares photo updates through to handover.

Keraniganj cost guide

Costs are worked out per square foot. The budget tier is ৳1,000–1,500, the standard tier ৳1,800–2,800, and the premium tier ৳3,500–6,000 or higher.

For example, a 1,400 sqft floor finished at the budget tier would cost roughly ৳14–21 lakh. As the area sits right beside Dhaka, no long-distance travel is involved, and any delivery charges appear openly as a line in the itemized quotation.

Questions from Keraniganj

My house is on low land. How do you protect the interior from water?

We start by checking floor levels and any history of water entry during the site visit. On the ground floor we recommend tiled floors, raised furniture, waterproof cabinet bases and moisture-resistant boards, with sockets set higher on the wall. Upper floors can then use a wider range of finishes without the same risk.

Can you design a wholesale garment showroom on a small budget?

Yes. For a budget-tier showroom we put the money into display systems and lighting, which do most of the selling, and keep ceilings and walls simple. Laminate shelving, steel hanging rails and a tiled floor keep costs down while still presenting stock clearly to buyers walking in from a busy market lane.

We are finishing one floor now and the rest later. Can you plan for that?

Building in stages is common here, and we can plan for it. We design the whole house so styles and finishes stay consistent, then carry out one floor now. The itemized quotation for that floor stands on its own, and the approved 3D design is ready whenever you decide to continue.
